Leopard believed to be responsible for killing child shot in Tehri

A leopard believed to have killed a child at a village in Tehri district was shot dead by a licensed hunter on Thursday. The leopard had killed the child on November 27. The angry locals had demanded that the leopard should be shot. The Forest department ahd declared the leopard a man-eater after 12-year-old Arnav, a resident of Maykot village in Ghansali area of Tehri distict was killed by the big cat. Nine camera traps and cages were set up in the area to trace the leopard responsible for killing the child. The Tehri divisional forest officer informed that the leopard believed to be the man-eater was killed by licensed shooter Joy Hukil on Thursday morning. The leopard is estimated to have been six to seven years old. Its body was destroyed after conducting the post mortem examination. It is pertinent to mention here that attacks on humans by leopards have increased in various parts-especially in the mountainous regions of the State in recent months.
