The temples in the city have been decorated and arrangements for the traditional fairs have been completed at places like near the Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple for Mahashivratri to be celebrated today. The head of a local Shiv temple committee Om Prasad stated that every year the committee members organise celebration of Mahashivratri. They decorate the temple with illuminations and flowers. Additionally, they also decorate the surrounding area of the Shivling with Belpatra, he said. He further said that the committee will perform a Kalash Yatra and distribute Prasad on the occasion.

In the morning, there will be a recitation of Shiv Puran at the temple and the devotees will also be performing Bhajan-Kirtan to mark the occasion,” said temple priest Vishnu Upadhyay. Local resident Kripa Bisht said that every year he and his family visit the temple of Lord Shiva located near their house. This year, they plan to visit the temple again and distribute Kheer Prasad.

In addition to the temples, the market also witnessed a number of people buying items used in prayers to Lord Shiva. Roadside stalls selling flowers, fruits, Belpatra and other Puja items did brisk business on Thursday.
