Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami presented the Sushma Swaraj award to 26 women at an event organised by the BJP Mahila Morcha here on Sunday. Remembering former Union minister Swaraj, the CM said that she had achieved very high stature at a young age. She was an example of Indian values and grace who was also known as a lady leader without any enemies in politics. He said that Swaraj had presented her stand boldly in the nation and also while representing India abroad. What Swaraj had envisioned for women is being done by the Central and State governments today, he added.

Dhami said that the Central government is implementing various schemes including Jal Jeevan Mission, Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao and Ujjwala among others. The State government is also undertaking various schemes in the interests of women. He said that provision for 30 per cent reservation for the State’s women in government jobs has been made in Uttarakhand to grant equal opportunities to them. He averred that the State government is working consistently for women welfare. The CM cited the Mukhyamantri Nari Sashaktikaran Yojana, Aanchal Amrit Yojana, Mahalakshmi Yojana, Lakhpati Didi Yojana and other schemes being implemented for women in the State. Provision is also being made in the budget for women welfare, he added.

Dhami recalled that after assuming office, he received complaints from students about alleged irregularities in recruitment exams. He directed a probe and hit strongly at the elements facilitating malpractices in such recruitment examinations with more than 60 accused persons having been sent to jail so far. Stressing that the government will not allow such elements to attack the education system, he stressed that people will be chosen for jobs on the basis of their qualification and capacity. The State government has brought a strict anti-copying law but some are troubled by this too. While the government is facilitating an investigation monitored by a High Court judge, those who earlier blamed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are now demanding an investigation by the CBI, he said. Speaking on the occasion, the Tehri MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah also recalled instances related to the late Sushma Swaraj. BJP Mahila Morcha State president Asha Nautiyal, MLAs Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’, Savita Kapur, Mahila Morcha national general secretary Deepti Rawat and others were also present on the occasion.
