Issues of persons with disabilities raised on IDPD

Saturday, 04 December 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

Those wanting to undergo an operation to treat a disability should go for it at an early age as complications are less and the pain is bearable. Padma Shri recipient orthopaedic surgeon Dr BKS Sanjay said this while addressing the media on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on Friday. He spoke on various aspects to address the issues faced by the disabled.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion he said that many people suffering from disability in India are victims of road traffic accidents. Those living in rural areas suffer the most due to the lack of facilities. He opined that the chances of disability decrease in cases of accidents if the patient has received proper treatment on time. Further, if any disability is caused due to an accident the chances of it being treated effectively are high in general. Dr Sanjay said, “We also conduct various free of cost campaigns to raise public awareness about disabilities.”

Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Gaurav Sanjay said, “People with disability suffered the most during the pandemic, especially in the developing nations like India.” He added that staff members in various organisations should be more considerate towards people with disabilities. Moreover, the government should provide facilities in public places to make these more accessible for the disabled.
