The security forces and agencies are in place to ensure safe and fair Lok Sabha elections. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said this regarding the arrest of ISIS head in India, Haris Farooqi from Assam on Wednesday. Farooqi is a Dehradun resident and was arrested along with his accomplice from Assam’s Dhubri district.
The authorities have claimed that they were indoctrinated and motivated members of ISIS who had allegedly carried out recruitment, terror funding and terror acts in various parts of the country. Singh said that the district police along with the Intelligence agency have been keeping an eye on Farooqi’s family for a long time to verify whether he has been in touch with his family. “We found that Farooqi has not been in touch with his family for about a decade. He had not returned home since he left to pursue higher studies at Aligarh Muslim University about 10 to 12 years ago.
The police met his family in Dehradun after his arrest in Assam. His father also claimed that his son had not been in touch with them for years,” the SSP said. He stated that the police have been taking all measures within the district and border areas to ensure safe and fair Lok Sabha elections. The Intelligence and other agencies concerned are in touch with the police and they will take further action in the matter as per their inputs, he added.
