Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the land of HMT Limited  transferred to the State government would be developed on the basis of a master plan so that the people of the area benefit from it. He said this after inspecting the erstwhile HMT factory premises located at Ranibagh in Nainital district on Tuesday.

Dhami held discussions with the Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat, district magistrate Dhiraaj Garbyal and other officers at the inspection site about the possible uses of the land. A delegation of the HMT employees also met the CM during the inspection and informed him about their problems.  He assured the employees that all their demands would be solved.

The HMT Ranibagh plant located in Haldwani in Nainital district was set up in the year 1985.  The plant is spread in an area of 45.33 acres of land and at its peak it used to manufacture 20 lakh watches in a year. In the year 2016 the plant was finally closed.

Last year the cabinet committee on economic affairs had given its approval to close down the HMT Ranibagh plant after it incurred regular losses. The land has now been transferred to the Uttarakhand government on ‘as is where is’ basis.

The mayor of Haldwani Jogendra Pal Singh Rautela, MLA Ram Singh Kaida, district president Rajendra Bisht and others were present on the occasion.
