Tributes paid, trees planted in memory of Tree Man

Rich tributes were paid to Vishweshwar Dutt Saklani, the renowned environmentalist and freedom fighter also known as Vrikshmanav (Tree Man) during his birth centenary celebrations at Pujargaon in Saklana Patti of Tehri district.

Tehri MLA Kishore Upadhyay said, “Vishweshwar Dutt Saklani had dedicated his entire life to nature by planting the highest number of 50 lakh broad leafed trees in the area around his village.” 

The contribution of the Tree Man Vishweshwar Dutt Saklani who planted 50 lakh trees cannot be counted in terms of the value it provides to society, he added.

Dhanaulti MLA Pritam Panwar said the Saklani, like a true Karma Yogi, devoted his entire life to greening the area.

Santosh Saklani, the son of Vishweshwar Dutt Saklani said that planting trees was the dream of his father and he wished that every person should treat trees as important to his life and protect them. His message was that on three important occasions- birth, marriage and death, a tree must be planted in the area. Different species were planted in honour of the Tree Man on the occasion.
