With the number of vehicles consistently rising in Dehradun, the failure of the authorities to provide adequate parking space is causing inconvenience to both vehicle users and pedestrians. Vehicles parked improperly due to lack of parking space cause traffic congestion and inconvenience to pedestrians.
Office goer Rajiv Singh said, “My daily route to office is DL Road via Karanpur and traffic conditions are really bad there. The situation is worsened by vehicles parked in front of shops. The already narrow road becomes harder to navigate due to these vehicles. Four-wheelers should either be barred or such narrow roads should be widened.”
Damini Rana said, “There is a bank and shops on both the sides of my house and because of that it is very crowed. On top of that vehicles are parked in front of my house and it becomes difficult to go out for any work. This happens because of the lack of parking space in front of bank and others shops.”
Student Akash Sharma said, “The parking problem is not new in Dehradun and yet nothing has been done regarding this for years now. Effective steps need to be taken to provide adequate and proper parking facility in the city,” he added.Social worker Anjali Negi said, “The people of Dehradun lack traffic etiquette then how can we expect proper parking from them. The root cause of the problems is people not following traffic rules and regulations. The problems will be less if people start following the rules.” At the current pace, it won’t take long for the conditions in Dehradun to become as bad as in Delhi, she added.
