Heavy rain/snowfall alert issued for six districts today

The State meteorological centre has issued a yellow alert regarding the possibility of heavy rain/snowfall at isolated places in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Nainital and Pithoragarh districts on Sunday. Further, thunderstorm accompanied with hail and lightning is likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat and Nainital districts whereas cold day conditions are likely to occur at few places in the mountains and at isolated places in the plains of the state. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/snowfall is likely to occur at most places in the districts of the state today while snowfall is likely to occur at places located at altitudes of 2,000 metres and above. The alert comes on a day when many parts of the state received light rain and snowfall which resulted in colder conditions.

The provisional state capital Dehradun is forecast to experience partly to generally cloudy sky with the likelihood of a few spells of light to moderate rain/thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 13 degrees Celsius and 10 degrees Celsius respectively on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at various places in the state on Saturday were 14.6 degrees Celsius and 9.5 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 17.6 degrees Celsius and 7.1 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 1.5 degrees Celsius and 0.4 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 6.2 degrees Celsius and 2.4 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri. Between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM there was 2.1 millimetres rain in Dehradun, 0.7 millimetres in Pantnagar, 1.5 millimetres in Mukteshwar, 1.6 millimetres in New Tehri, 12.5 millimetres in Narsan, 11.5 millimetres in Bhagwanpur, four millimetres in Jankichatti, two millimetres in Bhimtal and 2.5 millimetres in Laksar.
