On the occasion of Harela festival, the Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) department planted saplings in the name of orphan children residing in child homes of Dehradun.

On Friday, Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) and WECD jointly organised a plantation fest on the occasion of Harela at Vigyan Dham in Jhajra, Dehradun. The WECD minister  Rekha Arya along with 30 children from Shishu Niketan and Balika Niketan planted over 100 saplings in the Vigyan Dham premises including the saplings in the name of these children. Besides this, children were also educated about topics like glaciers, Himalayan fossils and Mount Everest.

They also enjoyed a 3D movie along with Arya. According to her, everyone should contribute to make the earth greener and children must stay connected with nature. Considering this, 30 saplings were planted in the name of each child present here from child homes so that they feel connected with those plants while they both grow with time, stated Arya.

The UCOST director general Rajendra Dobhal, chief probation officer, Mohit Chaudhary, district probation officer, Meena Bisht and district programme officer, Akhilesh Mishra were also present in this event along with Arya and WECD secretary HC Semwal.
