The police have lodged a case on the basis of a video clip showing a mule operating forcing the animal to smoke a cigarette on the Kedarnath route. In recent times, cruelty towards the horses and mules used to ferry people on the Kedarnath route has elicited public attention and condemnation.
The police took action in the latest case after the video clip in question went viral on social media. The mule operator was booked under IPC and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act on the basis of the complaint lodged by the sector officer.
It should be mentioned here that more than 10 lakh people have visited the Kedarnath temple so far this year and many of them have used horses and mules to visit the temple and return from it.
