Health Dept gears up to meet Covid-19 challenge

In view of a spurt in cases of Covid-19 in different parts of the country and three cases of the disease being reported in the State, the Health department has come into an active mode.
The Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar chaired a meeting of the senior officers of the department on Monday in which he reviewed the preparations of the department on the Covid-19 front.
In the meeting, he directed the officers to remain alert to meet any exigency. On a stern note, Kumar said that all the arrangements for combating the disease should be made and warned against any laxity.
He said that the State government is alert in view of the spurt in the cases of Covid-19 in the country. He said that things are in control in Uttarakhand at the moment but everyone should remain alert. The secretary said that there is no need to get worried or enter into a panic mode. “It is our endeavour to ensure that the necessary resources such as isolation beds, oxygen supply and availability of trained manpower is there in every hospital, health centre and medical college of the State. We are also strengthening the surveillance system and our rapid response teams are trained and ready,’’ he said.
Kumar appealed to the general public to maintain a distance from the rumours and follow the guidelines issued from time to time.
He directed all the government and private hospitals to ensure availability of isolation beds, oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, bipap machines, ventilators, ICU beds, oxygen generation plants and medicines.
The meeting was attended by director general of Health Dr Sunita Tamta, director of Medical Education Dr Ahutosh Sayana, assistant director Dr Pankaj Singh, chief medical officer of Dehradun Dr Manoj Sharma, CMS of GDMC hospital Dr RS Bisht and others.
