The city bus union has appealed to the State government to provide them the benefits of subsidies to run CNG buses in Dehradun which are already being given to the owners of electric buses. The president of the Dehradun Mahanagar City Bus Seva Mahasangh, Vijay Vardhan Dandriyal said that the buses older than 15 years will not be allowed to operate as per the law of the Ministry of Transport due to which, over 90 per cent of the city bus operators will be unemployed in Dehradun with unusable buses. He said that the State government has been planning to introduce electric buses in Dehradun as an attempt to control air pollution and is providing sufficient subsidies to operate electric buses. He said that the local city bus operators would like to follow the same path to continue to operate the buses in Dehradun. He said, “We have appealed to the state government to provide us up to 50 per cent subsidy for new CNG buses and subsidy of up to 50 per cent in loan under the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali scheme. It will help in reduction of air pollution level in the city while ensuring that several city bus operators do not get unemployed.”
