Deliberation held on national science, technology & innovation policy

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Uttarakhand and Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) organized a roundtable on the fifth National Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy here on Thursday. The roundtable was held to drive innovation, stimulate economic growth and address societal challenges through robust Industry-Academia Linkages.

UCOSt joint director DP Uniyal informed that the Uttarakhand State Policy on Science and Technology has been formulated with a focus on hill-centric development solving local problems and will soon be implemented. He also emphasised the need for increased investment in research and development by Indian industries, as we significantly lag globally. He apprised that while currently, 19 per cent of women are involved in scientific activities, the aim is to increase this to at least 30 per cent.

CII Uttarakhand State council vice chairman Suyash Agrawal, opined that there is a strong need for more collaboration between industry and academia and investment in R&D as a percentage of GDP also needs to be raised. He further shared the importance of creating an R&D ecosystem in a sustainable way to solve social problems.

Pro chancellor of Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University, Aman Bansal emphasised on the importance of empowering and encouraging students through appropriate training. He stressed on the need to focus on skill-building to prepare students for the industry.
