The heavy snowfall that was welcomed by the tourists and residents alike on Saturday has put normal life out of gear in the Dhanaulti region of Tehri district. The Chamba-Mussoorie Road remained closed to traffic on Sunday and around five mechanical excavators were deployed by the local administration to clear the snow. On the other hand, the electricity supply remained disrupted in dozens of villages due to the damage caused to power lines by fallen trees in the area.

Electricity department sub divisional officer Amit Kumar said that the staff has been sent to the affected spots to restore the power lines which were damaged due to the uprooted trees on Sunday night.

The treasurer of the local trader’s association Rukam Singh Negi said that the vehicles were unable to go further from Kanatal due to heavy snow. The Dhanaulti sub divisional magistrate Lakshmi Raj Chauhan said that mechanical excavators and staff have been deployed to clear the snow off the road. Movement of traffic will be restored once the weather is clear for safe traffic movement, he added. The local police station in-charge Pankaj Devrani said that the tourists from outside the town are being informed about the closure of the road and advised to not risk driving on a slippery road.
