Four new dengue patients found in Doon

The cumulative number of dengue cases in the provisional State capital Dehradun mounted to 88 with the Health department reporting four new cases of the disease on Monday. The samples of three patients admitted in Shri Mahant Indiresh hospital were found positive on the day. Similarly one patient belonging to Bijnor (Uttar Pradesh) was also found to be positive.
The Health department authorities informed that one patient admitted in Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital recovered from the disease on Monday. The district now has 13 active cases of dengue.
The department has so far collected 6,161 samples of the suspected patients of the disease and is currently engaged in a massive source reduction drive in which the larvae of the mosquito are being destroyed. The teams of the department conducted a survey of 7,460 households on Monday.
The authorities claim to have so far searched 2,97,285 households and 26,29,125 containers ( small and large potential breeding places of mosquito) in the district and have found larvae in 2,099 containers so far.
Dengue is a viral infection spread by the mosquito aedes aezypti popularly known as tiger mosquito. The symptoms of the disease are persistent high fever, rashes, headache and pain in the joints. In the acute cases the platelets number decreases drastically which may prove fatal for the patient.
