A forest beat officer of the Haldwani forest division was found dead under suspicious circumstances in his official residence in the Tanakpur area on Tuesday morning. The authorities found a bullet wound in the body which is possibly the main cause of his death, the officials said. The deceased named Harish Chandra Joshi (35) was a resident of the Nainital district and was posted at the Kalonia outpost of the Senapani range of Haldwani forest division. The officials informed that the officer appeared to have died from the bullet injury but nothing can be said for sure without the post mortem report. It is also not clear whether the deceased shot himself or somebody else shot him. These points will be cleared after the police get the post mortem report and other relevant reports. The Forest department has registered a case in the Tanakpur police station and the police have started the investigation. The family of the deceased has reportedly denied the possibility of Joshi shooting himself. According to them, he was about to get married in two months, the officials said. They also informed that the Forest department officials are also investigating the matter at their level along with the police.
