As the picturesque Valley of Flowers-a UNESCO World Heritage Site- has opened for the tourists on June 1 after the winter break and with the onset of monsoon; the tourists have started thronging it. With over a dozen flowers blooming now in the valley located at the altitude of 9000 feet in Chamoli district of the State, the air is now full of fragrance.  This year, due to the unseasonal snowfall in the valley, the flowers bloomed late, but now slowly the valley is regaining its mythical beauty with some of the flowers, exotic and rare, being found in full bloom.

This scenic valley is home to a myriad variety of cheerful flowers. Its iconic, meandering meadows are found carpeted with flowers of fiery hues, including Blue Poppies, known as the queen of the Himalayas. The flowers of other species will start blooming soon. July and August are the months when these flowers would be found blooming in abundance. During this time, domestic and foreign tourists come and return mesmerized by the super-abundance of nature’s blossoming beauty.
