Facing disqualification defector Rajkumar resigns

The Purola MLA Rajkumar who was facing disqualification from the membership of the Uttarakhand assembly under the anti defection law has resigned. He submitted his resignation to the speaker Prem Chand Agarwal on Monday. Talking to the media persons immediately after resignation of the MLA, the speaker said that since Rajkumar has resigned, there would be no case of disqualification under the anti defection law now against him. He said that the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president had written a letter and the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Pritam Singh had  submitted a petition against Rajkumar.

Rajkumar had contested the assembly election of the year 2017 on the symbol of Indian National Congress (INC) from Purola assembly constituency and was elected to the fourth assembly of the state. On September 12, 2021, he  joined the BJP in Delhi in presence of BJP leaders Dharmendra Pradhan, Anil Baluni, Madan Kaushik and others. In his petition to the speaker the LoP Pritam Singh had said that since Rajkumar has left the Congress party on his own his membership of should be terminated and the seat represented by him should be declared vacant.
