USERC observes World Biodiversity Day in Doon

Uttarakhand Science Education and Research Centre (USERC) Dehradun organised a programme to mark the International Day for Biological Diversity on Monday in collaboration with Dayanand Women Training (DWT) College Dehradun and Botanical Survey of India (BSI, Government of India) in DWT College’s auditorium.

Director of USERC Anita Rawat who was the chief guest said that the time has come for action- oriented biodiversity conservation and stressed that humans must live in complete harmony with nature.

USERC scientist Manju Sundriyal dwelt on the significance of observing the day while
in his keynote address, senior scientist and joint director, Botanical Survey of India, Harish Singh spoke of the importance of biodiversity, types of biodiversity, biodiversity in India, ethnobotany, economic botany and the differences between ethnobotany and economic botany. He also dwelt in details on the use of plants in the ancient medical system of India.  

As part of observing the day, the scientists and teachers planted 15 plants of medicinal importance in the DWT College premises. Besides, the 110 participants from DWT College took a pledge to work actively for the conservation of biodiversity.
