Elderly couple pleasantly surprised by facilities, empathy at GDMC

One usually tends to associate the government hospitals with pathetic arrangements and lackadaisical attitude of doctors and staff members. Ninety year old Devi Prasad Nawani, a resident of Basant Vihar locality of Dehradun and his wife were hoping to undergo a similar experience when the nonagenarian decided to operate his left eye at department of Ophthalmology at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital. However the elderly couple was in for a pleasant surprise when they found a high degree of care during their stay in the hospital and the facilities.
Wife of D P Nawani has written a letter to the Principal of GDMC Dr Ashutosh Sayana in which she has mentioned the good experience.

The Associate Professor department of Ophthalmology, Dr Shushil Ojha told The Pioneer that 90 year old Nawani was presented to him with a very high degree of decrease in vision of the left eye. “Considering his extreme old age and other problems, we carefully conducted all the pre operative tests and after that the surgery was done on May 14. The left eye phacoemulsification was done successfully along with the foldable intraocular lens implantation,’’ he said.

 Dr Ojha said that elderly couple was surprised by the caring nature and facilities at the biggest government hospital.

 Wife of the patient D P Nawani in her message to the principal said, “ I visited a government hospital almost after 20 years and it was a pleasant surprise to see such a nice government hospital with best possible facilities. I and my husband want to thank Dr Ojha and his team for extremely warm and professional service.’’

The Principal of GDMC, Dr Ashutosh Sayana said that the good experience of elderly couple highlights the emphatic nature of the hospital staff and the facilities in the hospital.
