CM directs for timely completion of reconstruction works in Kedarnath & Badrinath

The reconstruction works in Kedarnath and Badrinath should be completed on time with special focus on the quality. Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat issued this instruction to officials while chairing a meeting to review the reconstruction works on Tuesday.

Rawat said that in order to ensure the convenience of the pilgrims, all the tasks of important nature should be completed before the portals of these two shrines are opened to the public. There should be proper arrangements for seating, drinking water and sheds for the pilgrims. All necessary facilities should be made near the shrines for the convenience of the pilgrims, added the CM.

Tourism secretary Dilip Jawalkar informed that 85 per cent works related to the Mandap of Kedarnath shrine have been completed in the first phase of the reconstruction. This task will be completed by April 15. The work on the 60 metre span bridge on the Mandakini will also be completed before the start of the pilgrimage. The work on three caves and construction of Saraswati Ghat has been completed in Kedarnath while work on the Shankaracharya Samadhi will also be completed soon. The statue of Adi Shankaracharya is ready now, he said. Jawalkar further informed that majority of the family blocks are also ready and their allotment will be done soon. Works amounting to Rs 180 crore are nearing completion in Kedarnath while works amounting to Rs 128 crore will soon be started in the second phase of reconstruction, informed the secretary. It was also informed in the meeting that a plan for works amounting to Rs 245 crore has been prepared for the first phase in Badrinath. Keeping the Yatra season in view, priority will be accorded to executing works of important nature first.

Tourism and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj, chief secretary Om Prakash, principal secretary Anand Bardhan, Garhwal commissioner Ravinath Raman and other officials concerned were also present in the meeting.
