Delay in cooperative elections irks cooperative committee members

Expressing resentment at the inordinate delay in holding of the general elections of the cooperative societies in the State, the delegates and the former office bearers of the cooperative bodies of the State have threatened to launch a massive agitation.
On Friday, a large number of delegates assembled at the office of the Cooperative Election Authority in Dehradun and demanded that the authority should release the schedule of cooperative elections before May 12, 2025. They also handed over a memorandum directed to the chairperson of the authority. The agitators threatened that if the authority fails to declare the schedule of the elections soon then they will be forced to start a massive agitation and to lock the office of the authority.
The delegates said that as per the order of the Uttarakhand High Court, the Authority should have started the process of election till May 01,2025 but it failed to take necessary steps.
The outgoing chairperson of the District Cooperative Bank, Tehri, Subhash Ramola said that the cooperative committees are suffering from the carelessness of the authority and lakhs of the members are deprived of their democratic rights.
Former chairperson of the DCB Pauri, Narendra Singh Rawat said that the cooperative committees are the backbone of the rural economy of the State. The delay in elections is not only affecting the administrative work but is also affecting the morale of the members.
