The police have arrested two accused who had attacked an ascetic of the Juna Akhada in Haridwar on June 27. The accused Deepak and Rahul were arrested from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, a few days ago both the accused had come to visit Haridwar with their family. During their visit they got the room in Juna Akhada Ashram. However, when the Kothari Mahakal Giri and Ashram manager came to know that the duo was drunk, they were made to leave the Ashram at night. The duo left at that time but later on June 27, they returned to Haridwar and attacked Giri at 11 PM. While the duo had fled the scene after attacking the Sadhu, he is still under treatment in the hospital.

Superintendent of police (City) Swatantra Kumar Singh said that Deepak and Rahul felt insulted and returned to Haridwar intentionally to beat Giri. Police investigation revealed that Deepak is a history-sheeter on whom about seven cases of loot, Gangster Act and others had been registered in the past.
