The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh launched a hi-tech drone called Flying Hawk on Thursday which will be used to monitor traffic violations, improper parking and temporary encroachments on roads.

He said that the Dehradun police has signed a contract with a Mumbai-based company Idea Forge Technology Limited according to which it will continuously monitor all the main roads of the city like Chakrata Road, Shimla Bypass Road, Saharanpur Road, Haridwar Bypass Road, Rajpur Road and East Canal Road among others with the help of hi-tech drones. These drones will help the police to enforce traffic rules at these locations. Besides this, these cameras will also help monitor law and order during religious processions and rallies apart from keeping an eye on temporary encroachments that hinder traffic. Singh said that only two such drones will be used to monitor these areas in the initial phase.

The police will use more drones to cover more area of the district depending upon the work of these drones, said Singh. He said that these drones will be operated from the Police Office in Dehradun and the control room in ISBT. The authorities will keep an eye on every activity happening on all the said routes via these drones.

The SSP said that senior officials of the district will also have live access to the said drones so that they can monitor their activities and live location from time to time. The monitoring work via these drones has started from Thursday. SSP said that the police are aware of the traffic issues in the city and are taking all possible measures to address them. Police are also considering other plans as well to diminish the traffic issues across the city, he added.
