The Dehradun district magistrate Sonika on Sunday started the cleanliness campaign in the district along with the Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) officials and associated agencies. She started the campaign by participating in the cleaning of the Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) premises and nearby areas with the team.

The team also conducted the cleaning campaign in various locations including Panchayati Temple, Darshan Lal Chowk, Paltan Bazaar and Railway Station among others. Besides this, the officials of the Line department also conducted a massive cleanliness campaign in areas like Selaqui, Vikasnagar, Doiwala and Rishikesh on the DM’s order with the help of respective municipal bodies and volunteers.

Sonika also appealed to the citizens to participate in the ongoing cleanliness campaign. She asked all the locals to keep their garbage segregated and dispose of them at the designated place or via door to door garbage collection vehicles.

Sonika said, “I request all to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness. Not just on roads but everyone should refrain from throwing garbage in rivers, drains and open places. Cleanliness is the responsibility of all of us and one should dispose of garbage responsibly.” Besides this, DM also asked locals to give suggestions on how to make the cleanliness campaign more effective.
