The State government is gearing up for the operation of seaplanes in five reservoirs across the State. The State administration considers the five reservoirs Tehri dam reservoir, Nanakmatta dam reservoir, Haripura reservoir, Tumria barrage and Rishikesh barrage suitable to commence the seaplane operations for which it has also sent a proposal to the Central government, as per the officials. They said that the administration aims to ensure seaplane operation commences in all the proposed reservoirs which will take tourism of the State to a new level.

According to them, all these reservoirs fulfill all the criteria required to commence the operations here. The seaplane operation will give a big boost to State tourism once the Central government approves the proposal under its Sagar Mala programme. The State administration will act further accordingly after getting approval from the Centre which they expect to get soon, officials added.

Meanwhile, the authorities are also gearing up to commence the operation of Naini Saini airport in Pithoragarh district. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted an aerodrome license to the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA), which currently manages the airport located close to the India-China border region in the Pithoragarh district.

According to UCADA officials, the agency that will operate flights from the airport had planned to conduct a trial landing on the weekend but could not do it due to bad weather. The trial will be scheduled again as per the favourable weather conditions, the officials added.
