Heavy rain warning issued for seven districts

Maximum temperatures drop in various cities following consistent rainfall

The maximum temperature dropped considerably on Sunday in Dehradun and other places with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain being experienced on the second consecutive day. The trend is set to continue across the State on Monday with the State meteorological centre issuing a red alert regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in Dehradun and five other districts.

The meteorological centre has issued a red alert regarding the possibility of extremely heavy rain likely at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Champawat, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar while heavy to very heavy is possible at some places in these districts on Monday. Thunderstorms with lightning and intense to very intense spells of rain are also likely in these six districts. Heavy to very heavy rain is also likely to occur at isolated places in Haridwar.

The meteorological centre has also issued a yellow alert (watch) regarding the possibility of heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places in Chamoli and Bageshwar districts of Uttarakhand. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and intense to very intense spells are likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of the State today. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at many places in Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag districts and at most places in the remaining districts of the State on Monday.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness partly to generally cloudy sky. Heavy rain/thundershowers are likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 27 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Monday. Considering the increased risk of landslide in vulnerable areas due to the ongoing medium and heavy rain along with the red alert, the district magistrate has ordered a holiday in all Anganwadi centres and schools in the district on Monday.

Meanwhile, consistent rainfall during the past couple of days brought down the maximum temperature in Dehradun and other places on Sunday. Dropping by four degrees Celsius from normal, the maximum temperature in Dehradun was 25.8 degrees Celsius while the minimum was 24.4 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature dropped by three degrees Celsius in Pantnagar to 30 degrees Celsius while the minimum was 26.1 degrees Celsius. Similarly, the maximum temperature dropped by five degrees Celsius to 21.5 degrees Celsius in New Tehri while the minimum was 18.6 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in Mukteshwar dropped by one degrees Celsius to 19.8 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar where the minimum was 16.4 degrees Celsius. With light to moderate rain continuing in most parts of the State, there was 30 millimetres in Tanakpur, 18.6 millimetres in Dehradun and 10.5 milimetres in Mussoorie.
