Police nab accused cyber fraud from Delhi

The Pauri district police nabbed Ranjeet Ranjan Thakur, a resident of Bihar from Delhi. He is an accused in connection with cyber fraud in the name of renewal of the lapsed policy and was arrested by the district police from the Sagarpur area of south-west Delhi.

According to the information provided by the police, a resident of Kotdwar, Chandraprakash had lodged a first information report in police Kotwali in Kotdwar on June 10 this year. In his report, he had stated that some unknown person has done cyber fraud amounting to Rs.1.46 lakh by duping him on the pretext of the renewal of a lapsed policy. The Kotwali police registered a case against the unknown person under sections 420/ 504/ 506 of the Indian Penal Code. Taking cognisance of the seriousness of the case the Pauri senior superintendent of police Shweta Choubey instructed police personnel to constitute a team to arrest the accused involved in the crime. The police team after investigating the mobile number, Paytm and details of the other banks along with tips succeeded in arresting the accused Ranjeet Ranjan Thakur (39). He hails from Madhubani district in Bihar and is a current resident of Sagarpur in south-west Delhi. The police informed that they had also initiated action to freeze the bank accounts of the accused as per the rules.

It is pertinent to mention here that there has been an alarming rise in cases of various types of cyber crimes in the State in recent years. Despite the police warning the citizens to remain alert and not entertain cyber criminals trying to dupe them, the number of cyber crimes being committed in various parts of the State has not decreased.
