Uttarakhand Congress has demanded that the cabinet minister Rekha Arya should resign on moral grounds since the Uttar Pradesh (UP) police have issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against her husband.

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal told media persons here on Thursday that instead of conducting introspection; Arya is engaged in a verbal war with the former chief minister and general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Harish Rawat. He said that the language used by the minister is highly deplorable. Coming down heavily on the president of state BJP Madan Kaushik for defending the husband of Rekha Arya, Godiyal said that Kaushik is telling that the case is 25 years old. He said that it appears as if the BJP president considers himself above the law. Godiyal said that it is not for the first time the BJP is shielding those involved in criminal activities.

The PCC president said that the manner in which the BJP leaders are targeting Harish Rawat clearly reflects that the party is afraid of Rawat who is very popular among the people.
