Accompanied by the Union minister of forest and environment Bhupendra Yadav and the State forest minister Subodh Uniyal, the Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the Motichur range of the Rajaji National Park. During this visit, a tigress, brought from the Corbett Tiger Reserve, was released in the Rajaji Tiger Reserve. Dhami said that all efforts are being made to ensure that this area of Rajaji National Park turns into a tourism hub and people come here in large numbers to enjoy the beauty of nature. A perfect balance being maintained between ecology and economy, the State government has been trying to preserve and enhance environment, he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Rajaji National Park administration has been keeping a constant watch on the movements of the tigress which has been released. The director of Rajaji National Park Saket Badola said that the behaviour of the tigress is normal. The tigress has been tied with radio collar so that the forest officials can keep a track of its movements.

The forest department has been trying for some time to increase the number of tigers in the south-western area of the Rajaji National Park. Shifting tigers or tigresses from Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve to Rajaji National Park is part of this process. Earlier, a tiger was shifted on December 24 2020 and a tigress was shifted on January 9 2021. It is learnt from the forest department that two more tigers will be brought from Corbett Tiger Reserve to Rajaji National Park in the coming days.
