Dhami felicitates shuttler Lakshya Sen

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami felicitated national level badminton player Lakshya Sen and presented a cheque for Rs 15 lakh to him.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that by winning a medal at the BWF World Badminton Championship, Sen had brought fame to the nation and the state. He wished Sen the best in his efforts to win the gold medal in the coming world championship. Dhami said that the state government had implemented the sports policy 2021 to encourage sports and players. Maharana Pratap Sports university will be established in the state so as to connect as many youth as possible with sports. He further said that the sports policy implemented by the state government has provisions for uplift of players, searching for and training sporting talent, increasing interest in sports, better diet for players and employment opportunities for sportspersons. Provision has also been made for financial incentive in order to develop national-international level sporting talent. The state government has also started the process of opening an open gymnasium in every Gram Panchayat of the state under the Swasth Yuva, Swasth Uttarakhand scheme, he said.

Dhami further said that a women sports college will be established in Udham Singh Nagar for skill development of women players. Further, free transport in Uttarakhand State Transport Corporation buses will be provided to those who play in national games. Five per cent sports quota for admission in colleges and vocational courses along with provision of government jobs for national games medal winners as provided to Asian, Commonwealth and Olympic medal winners will also be facilitated. MLA Shakti Lal Shah, director general of police Ashok Kumar, sports director GS Rawat, joint director Dharmendra Bhatt, Sen’s parents DK Sen and Manju Sen were also among those present on the occasion.
