Many residents of Dehradun have made a shift towards using solar water heaters instead of electric water heaters. They believed that factors such as lower electricity consumption, environmental friendliness and government subsidies have motivated people to choose solar water heaters. Experts emphasised that in terms of long-term benefits such as cost savings and environmental impact, solar water heaters are a superior choice compared to electric water heaters.

As time passes, more people in Doon are installing solar water heater panels on their rooftops. Local resident Mahindra Dutt said that he himself has installed a solar panel on his rooftop. He opined that solar water heaters are a more beneficial option than electric water heaters. The mounting electricity bills and frequent power cuts have served as a motivation for him to make this switch. He emphasised that other people are also considering the advantages and opting for solar water heaters in cities.

“The solar water heater panels in the city have become increasingly popular among the people. Various factors, such as these being environment friendly, consuming less power and government subsidies have influenced individuals to choose solar water heaters over electric ones,” said another local resident Sarthak Bisht.

Talking to The Pioneer, the secretary of the Society of Pollution and Environmental Conservation Scientists (SPECS) Brij Mohan Sharma said, “With the passage of time the demand for solar water heater panels has increased. Solar water heaters offer several advantages over electric water heaters, making them a more sustainable and cost effective choice in many situations. Energy efficiency, cost saving, renewable source of energy, continuous supply of hot water and low maintenance are encouraging the people to shift to solar water heaters. Following the advantages people must opt for the solar water heaters,” he opined.
