The chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal has urged women residing in the State to download the Gaura Shakti application and the State Mahila application on their mobile phones. These applications would enable women to report any untoward incidents. Kandwal stressed on the importance of these applications in light of a recent case wherein a drunk father allegedly raped his own 16-year-old daughter in Dehradun.

Dwelling on the issue, Kandwal informed that she had discussed the case with the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. Expressing her concern, she ordered the SSP to take strict action against the accused involved in the incident. “The incident is very shameful and it raises significant concerns regarding the safety of daughters within our society. The prevalence of alcohol and drugs is contributing to the destruction of families, and humanity is being torn apart as a result,” she added.

Kandwal further informed that she will meet the victim and her family to provide counselling. She is committed to ensuring that justice is served expeditiously. Additionally, the USCW chief further informed that she recently became aware of another distressing incident involving an allegedly drunk army man who brutally beat his two and a half year old daughter to death in Dehradun. In light of these two cases, Kandwal has urged all women to be prepared to handle such situations by saving the contact numbers of various essential services provided by the government and administration on their phones. She has also advised them to download the Police department’s Gaura Shakti app and State Mahila app. Further, she said that women can also file complaints by calling the commission’s mobile number 8126774374.
