The authorities on Wednesday recovered two dead bodies in two separate incidents from Rishikesh and Joshimath. The officials said that the police got information that some locals noticed a body near Rishikesh Cheela Barrage in the morning. The police called a team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) at the spot to retrieve the body. The team recovered the body from the barrage and handed it over to the district police.

The officials said that the body appeared to be at least a week old and the police are yet to identify the deceased. The police have estimated the deceased’s age to be around 50 years and are taking necessary actions to identify him. On the question of the cause of death, the officials said that it appears that the deceased drowned and died but it will be clarified after getting the postmortem report. The authorities also retrieved the body of a man who had reportedly fallen into a 300 metre deep gorge in Joshimath’s Jhadkula area on Wednesday.

The police called SDRF at the spot to rescue the man but the man had died at the spot, said the officials. They said that the deceased was a Nepalese man identified as Kamal Bahadur who used to work as a labourer. The SDRF handed over the body to the police who will hand it over to the family after completing the required procedure, added officials.
