CS directs departments to make roads patchless on time

Chief secretary Sukhbir Singh Sandhu directed officials of the departments concerned to work in a planned manner to maintain a patchless road network in the state. While chairing a meeting with departmental officials on Thursday, Singh directed that undertaking real time monitoring of roads, road assessment software should be activated and all status should be presented online.

He directed officials of the Public Works Department (PWD), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to complete road repairs taking stretches which have high traffic and are in a bad condition on priority. After that, the road improvement works should be executed in descending order considering the condition of roads.

Seeking information about the actual condition of roads from the PWD engineer in-chief, Singh asked him to get a drone survey conducted to ascertain the condition of roads and quality of improvement works under the other three departments and submit a report on the same soon.

The chief secretary directed the construction departments and agencies to send proposals for reconstruction and improvement based on the actual condition of the road and need for improvement. Unnecessary problems in traffic flow and movement of people should be prevented during the road works, he said, adding that disorderly system of working will not be tolerated. The officials were directed to set a timeline and ensure that works to make the roads patchless and improve them are completed on time. Singh also directed the principal secretary RK Sudhanshu to establish coordination with THDC India Limited and look for a solution to the problem of parking in mountainous areas.

The PWD engineer in-chief Hariom Sharma, BRO director Vivek Srivastav, NHAI project director PS Gosain and NHIDCL DGM (projects) Premchand and others were also present in the meeting.
