Over 600 surrender ration cards this year

Fearing action by the Dehradun district administration, more than 600 ineligible local residents have surrendered their ration cards this year which were meant for Below Pverty Line beneficiaries. Several citizens have complained many times that many from high income groups remain in possession of those ration cards which are meant to benefit the BPL families of Dehradun and through which they get a subsidised monthly ration. The district officials stated that though the district supply office issues notice to such locals on receiving any complaints but they have also asked those high income individuals to come forward and themselves surrender the ration cards.

Dehradun district supply officer (DSO) Jaswant Singh Kandari said that more than 600 locals have returned the white ration cards so far which are allotted to low income families to get subsidised ration from the government. He also added that if anyone is aware of such beneficiaries who are ineligible to use certain ration cards, they can complain to the district supply office. “On receiving any complaint against a beneficiary, we ask for the proof of income details of the accused beneficiary and if he or she fails to present the required documents and details, they are sent a notice and the allotted ration card is annulled,” informed Kandari. Moreover, the officials informed that one can surrender the yellow ration card or white ration card which is meant for low income families to the dealers of the fair price shops and can begin to apply to get the new ration card as per their category.
