Special focus on health & crowd control in Kumbh Mela

CM lists various works done to ensure a divine, grand, clean & safe Kumbh

On Thursday when the Kumbh Mela officially began in Haridwar, chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat said that the Covid guidelines of the central government will be followed completely. He said that at the same time, attempts are also being made to ensure that the devotees arriving in Haridwar do not face unnecessary hindrances. The State government is committed to ensuring a clean, divine, beautiful and safe Kumbh while also ensuring the convenience of the religious fraternity and devotees, said the CM while addressing the media virtually.

Rawat said that proper security arrangements have been made in Haridwar while the number of buses has also been increased. Informing about the various works done for the Kumbh Mela, he said that the centre has provided Rs 700 crore for various development works and Kumbh Mela works. About Rs 58 crore provided under Namami Gange for sanitation was used to provide 11,800 temporary toilets and 6,674 temporary urinals. Further, Rs one crore was provided for Paint My City campaign and Rs 50 lakh was provided for 78 changing rooms. Rawat further said that Rs 49.64 crore was spent on nine bathing ghats, Astha Path Haridwar and Munikireti.

In addition to this, 157.65 kilometres of roads were built with Rs 127.51 crore. Apart from listing out various infrastructural and beautification works carried out for the Kumbh, the CM said that special focus is being laid on health facilities and crowd management. He said that a 150 bed hospital costing Rs 2.22 crore has been established. Doctors, nurses and other medical staff persons have been arranged from Uttar Pradesh. Further, Rs 70.15 crore has been provided for equipment, medicines, temporary workers and other aspects in 39 temporary hospitals with 463 bed capacity. With special focus on crowd control and security, a police surveillance system costing Rs 17.34 crore has been set up.
