Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inspected the four-lane road being constructed to the Nepali dry port in the India-Nepal border region in Banbasa, Champawat on Sunday. He said that this road being constructed till the border with Nepal is very important from the strategic and practical aspects.
At the construction site, the CM sought details about the progress of the project being undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHA) and issued instructions regarding timely completion of the work while maintaining the desired level of quality. According to officials, 7.28 hectare land has been formally transferred to the NHAI for this project. A sum of Rs 177 has been approved in the initial phase for the construction of this 3.06 kilometre long four-lane road.
However, considering the geographical and technical aspects, the estimated cost is expected to rise by Rs 80 crore, as a result of which the total budget could reach Rs 250 crore. The construction of this road began in March 2023 and was slated to be completed by 2024. However, due to natural disasters like flood, this project is now expected to be completed by 2027. One flyover, one large bridge and two small bridges are proposed to be constructed as part of this project.
Dhami said that once completed, this project will improve the India-Nepal area for international trade and transport in general. He directed the officials concerned to expedite work on the project while maintaining transparency and quality.
