Bhatt assumes office of state information commissioner

 Statehood activist and senior journalist Yogesh Bhatt assumed the office of State Information Commissioner (SIC) on Wednesday. The Governor Lieutenant General (retd) Gurmit Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to Bhatt at Raj Bhawan in a simple and graceful ceremony.

The Chief Information Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha, SIC Vivek Sharma, Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama, Chief Secretary SS Sandhu, Director General Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar, Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman and others were present on the occasion.

Will bring more transparency in information disposal: Bhatt

The newly appointed State information commissioner (SIC) Yogesh Bhatt said that the Uttarakhand Information Commission (UIC) will work on providing maximum information about departments in public domain to bring more transparency under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. He said that the commission would also work in improving the timely disposal of quality information sought by people. He stated this in a Press conference organised in UIC premises on Wednesday which was also joined by Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Anil Chandra Punetha. The CIC said that the commission is aware of certain difficulties and irregularities prevalent in seeking information under RTI and has been working to improve the condition. He said that the commission is considering taking initiatives for timely disposal of information while ensuring quality in upcoming months. He said that the commission has conducted 3,960 hearings since January to November and has disposed of a total of 2,631 cases. The commission has also imposed penalties of Rs five lakh on guilty public information officers during this period, said Punetha. He said that about 4,000 cases were pending due to Covid-19 which has brought down to about 2,000 cases which will be disposed of soon too.
