City Bus operators to surrender their buses, blame RTO for losses

Stating that their situation has been intolerable during the past few months, the Dehradun city bus operators have decided to surrender their buses to the regional transport office (RTO) on Monday.

The bus operators have blamed the regional transport officers for allowing the three-wheeler public transport vehicles despite their consistent violation of laws which has brought the business of city buses down in the city. They added that the Covid-19 pandemic has also hit them hard in the last two years and the State Government has not provided them with any help or relaxations in taxes.

According to the president of Dehradun Mahanagar City Bus Seva Mahasangh, Vijay Vardhan Dandriyal, the numbers of electric rickshaws are constantly increasing which are supposed to run in internal areas but they are running on all the main roads of the city without any restrictions. Similar violations are being done by others which has severely affected the operation of city buses. “Hardly 20 per cent of city buses are currently running in Dehradun.

We cannot bear the expenses of the buses anymore therefore we have decided to surrender our buses in the RTO premises along with our permits. The transport department can keep our buses. We will demand that the authorities compensate us accordingly for our buses,” asserted Dandriyal.
