Maintain connectivity between Garhwal & Kumaon during monsoon: Maharaj

The PWD minister Satpal Maharaj has directed the officers of the department to ensure proper connectivity of the roads linking Garhwal and Kumaon regions during the Monsoon period. The minister held a meeting with the officers of PWD in the office of engineer in chief of the department at Yamuna colony  on Wednesday to review the preparations of the department for monsoon. In the meeting, the minister took an assessment of the roads blocked due to heavy rains and directed the officers to remove the debris from the roads.

 The minister was told that the department has prepared an effective plan for the monsoon and 52 roads out of 179 blocked roads have been opened for traffic so far.  A total of 468 JCB, Poclain, chain dozers and wheel loaders have been deployed in the sensitive places to open the blocked roads. GPS is installed on the machines which gives online information about their movement. Maharaj said that 8436 roads including national highways, state highways, district roads, rural roads and others have been included in the monsoon season disaster management. He said that management for cleaning 7140 drains during the months of April, May and June was made. Maharaj directed the field officers to remain available on their phones during monsoon period and asked them to coordinate with other departments for disaster management works.

 The PWD secretary Pankaj Kumar Pandey, additional secretary Vineet Kumar, Principal Chief Engineer Deepak Kumar Yadav and others were present on the occasion.
