Calls to 108 emergency service register sixfold rise on Holi

The 108 emergency ambulance services received six times more calls related to accidents on the day of Holi on Wednesday.  The general manager (Projects) Anil Sharma said that a total of 117 calls related to accidents were registered on the festival of Holi. He said that on a normal day 15 to 20 calls related to accidents are received by the ambulance service. He further informed that 225 calls related to pregnancy, 50 cardiac problems and 585 other calls were received by the 108 service between March 7 and 8. Similarly 180 calls were transferred to police as they were related to it. 

The service had cancelled the leaves of its staff and had made arrangements for deployment of security personnel with every ambulance. Additional mobile teams were pressed into service for Holi in all the districts of the state.

  In Kashipur of Udham Singh Nagar district, a child birth was safely performed in an ambulance on Holi. After delivery the mother and child were admitted to the community health centre of Kashipur.

 In Dehradun district, emergency help was provided to 158 people by the 108 ambulance service on Holi. It included 39 cases of road accidents, 30 related to pregnancy and four cardiac cases.
