Police crush modified silencers and pressure horns

Tuesday, 06 June 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Udham Singh Nagar police on Monday destroyed over 200 modified silencers and 158 pressure horns removed from motorcycles by crushing these under a road roller in the traffic police office. These silencers emit a noise like bursting crackers and it sounds like the bike is spewing fire that causes noise pollution and creates a public nuisance while the pressure horns spread noise pollution, said the officials.

They said that acting on the complaints of locals, the senior superintendent of police of the district Manjunath TC has directed the traffic police to take effective action against two-wheelers fitted with such modified silencers. They said that modified silencers and pressure horns are widely popular among youths but they produce loud noise of at least 130 decibels which is considerably higher than the noise limit for two-wheelers which is 80 decibels as per the rules.

The SSP has stated that such acts will not be tolerated by the police and action will be taken accordingly. The police said that more than 200 modified silencers and 158 pressure horns were destroyed at the traffic police office near Indra Chowk by crushing them under a road roller. The police will continue to act against such offenders in future too, added officials.
