Second incident of tiger killing labourer during November in Corbett

A worker was killed by a tiger in the Dhikala range of Corbett tiger reserve here on Thursday. The man was doing work on the solar fencing when a tiger attacked him. Five men were working at the site when the big cat attacked one of them. There were also two armed forest personnel posted for their security. According to sources, one of the workers identified as Ram Bahadur (57) was attacked by a tiger. The armed personnel fired a total of 10 rounds in the air in an attempt to scare the tiger away. The big cat left the man but he had reportedly died by that time. The Corbett director Dhiraj Pandey and chief wildlife warden Samir Sinha were informed about the incident and the chief wildlife warden reportedly gave permission to catch the tiger. The effort to tranquilise the tiger was then undertaken with two teams on elephants, one drone team, a veterinary team and a quick response team. The tiger identified as the one response for the attack was finally tranquilised at about 2:30 PM. The DNA samples of the tiger are being sent to CCMB Hyderabad and Wildlife Institute of India in Dehradun. The officials said that the big cat is a male tiger aged about two years. The tiger is reported to be fully healthy. The tranquilised tiger was taken to the Dhela rescue centre. The chief wildlife warden has issued instructions for carrying out a detailed inquiry into the incident on Thursday. It will be recalled that earlier on November 12, a labourer had been killed by a big cat in the Corbett landscape. It should be mentioned here that the grassland area in the Dhikala zone of Corbett is currently closed for tourist safaris from the security point of view. The area is being monitored.
