Congress workers burn Doon mayor in effigy

The workers of the Congress party burned the effigy of the Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama at the head office of the party on Thursday to register their protest in the disproportionate assets case of the Mayor. A meeting of the Mahanagar Congress committee was also organised on the day to discuss the preparation for the plan of the party to hold a massive protest at Municipal Corporation of Dehradun.

The party leaders also devised a strategy to protest levying of taxes in the new wards and the issue of regularisation of the slums. Speaking on the occasion the president of the Mahanagar Congress Committee Jasvinder Singh Gogi said that an inquiry headed by a sitting judge of the High Court (HC) should be constituted in the disproportionate asset case of the Mayor. He said that the Mayor has amassed huge assets in only four years of his tenure.

Gogi said that the Congress would continue to fight the BJP government till the harassment of the opposition leaders is stopped. He said that a conspiracy is being hatched against the Congress leaders in the country. The Congress leader said that each and every worker of the Congress party is standing firmly with Rahul Gandhi.

Speaking on the occasion the senior leader of the Congress party, Godavari Thapli said that the union and State governments are using the investigation agencies to harass the opposition leaders. She said that the Congress party and its workers would not get bogged down by the suppressive tactics of the BJP and would continue to fight the BJP government.
