30 children and women rescued in Doon

The joint teams of the Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) and District Task Force rescued 25 children and five women who were forced into begging, child labour and rag picking. The rescue operation was conducted in ISBT, Shimla Bypass and Transport Nagar areas as per the directions of district magistrate Sonika in association with Child Line and various government and non-governmental bodies.

The officials said that the campaign was conducted to provide protection, care and shelter to children and women who were being forced to indulge in activities like child labour, begging and rag picking against their will. The AHTU coordinated with several departments and organisations concerned and finally conducted the rescue campaign late on Thursday.

The teams rescued five women, 10 girls and 15 boys who were given proper counselling by the Child Welfare Committee. Keeping their interest in mind, five girls were sent to Sarfina Trust which is an open shelter home, four boys and one girl were sent to Shishu Niketan and nine children were sent to Samarapn Society shelter home. Besides this, five women and their six children were sent to Veerangana Tilu Rauteli Hostel in Dehradun, as per the officials.
