3 dead, 6 seriously hurt in Champawat accident

Three persons died while six were seriously injured when the Bolero jeep they were travelling in fell down the mountainside in Chamitok area of Champawat on Monday evening. Of the nine persons in the jeep, three died on the spot in the mishap which occurred at about 4:20 PM while the six injured were sent by the district authorities to the hospital. The Tehsildar, police and others reached the site soon after being informed about the accident. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief at the mishap and directed necessary measures to ensure proper treatment of the injured persons. Dhami also announced ex-gratia of Rs two lakh for the next of kin of each person killed and Rs 50,000 assistance for each of the injured. The Champawat district magistrate Narendra Singh Bhandari, expressing grief at the mishap, directed officials to ensure proper treatment of the injured persons. Those killed on the spot in the mishap were identified as Chandra Devi, Manorath and Pan Singh Parwal, all residents of villages in Pati Tehsil of the district. The injured have been identified as Ranjit Kumar, Dalchand- both natives of Uttar Pradesh, Gauri Thwal, Parvati Devi, Bhuwan Chand Sanwal- all three from Nainital district and Bhuwan Chandra Gola from Pati Tehsil. The seriously injured persons are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
