7 members of a family end life in Panchkula due to debt

In a shocking incident, seven members of a family from Dehradun are suspected to have committed suicide in a car at Panchkula in Haryana on the intervening night of May 26 and 27. They allegedly consumed poison. In the suicide note recovered from the car, the family ascribed their collective suicide to acute financial distress and mounting debt. All the deceased were found unconscious inside the locked car parked outside a house in Sector 27. They were rushed to a hospitals where they were declared dead on arrival.

The deceased have been identified as Praveen Mittal (42), a Dehradun resident, his elderly parents, wife, and three children — two daughters and a son.

As per preliminary investigation, the family was in Panchkula to attend a religious event and they collectively consumed poison while driving back to Dehradun after the event was over. The probe further revealed that Praveen had started a tour and travel business and as it incurred huge losses the family got itself mired in spiralling debt.
