Life support & first aid training given to IMA cadets

In a novel initiative, the Indian Military Academy (IMA) has tied up with the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), Swami Rama Himalayan University to conduct basic life support and first-aid training to its cadets. The training covered common emergencies both in peace and combat scenarios. More than 400 gentleman cadets including foreign cadets were trained by a team of eight experts comprising specialists and super-specialists. The training team was led by surgeon, rear admiral (retd) Dr Girish Gupta from HIMS.

The HIMS officials state that a holistic training was imparted to the gentlemen cadets of IMA to empower them not only with conventional nuances of life-saving, but also impart requisite training in life saving methodologies which is a critical requirement during military operations. They were imparted training which covered an array of critical topics including basic CPR, management of bleeding, head and spine injuries, stabilisation principles and handling emergencies arising from snake bites and scorpion stings.’

Apart from Dr Gupta the team consisted of Dr Rakesh Kumar, Dr Yashir Ahmad Lone, Dr Ashish Kumar Simalti, Dr Manju Kedarnath, Dr Rohit Kapoor, Deepak Sharma and Sunil Khand.
